2/10: Party in a serious way

Soulphonetic’s Christian Vera is turning 30 this month.  Soulphonetics is a DJ collective that spins the soulful sounds of House, Jazz and all forms of Afro-Latin and Electronic rhythms.   I have been to some of their Dance Syndrome parties and have always had a blast. Christian will be celebrating with some of Chicago’s best DJs such as Sound Culture and DJ New Life, up and coming hip-hop crew PRESTON & JOEY PURPS, and international carioca bass queen Zuzuka Poderosa.
Zuzuka Poderosa drops Brazilian bred, BK-based swagger like no other. A stylistic blend of Funk Carioca Bass and NYC rumble add a breath of fresh air to today’s international music scene.

Find romance and get a free appetizer at Cite Chicago

The other day, my friend Mila invited me to visit her at work. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered  that she works for a restaurant that has one of the best views of the city: Cite Chicago. Located on the 70th floor of Lake Point Tower, right next to Navy Pier on Lake Michigan, Cite has breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the city and a circular dining area. This is a great place for a romantic date and a great alternative to avoid the crowds visiting the  Signature Room at  the John Hancock building. I would recommend having drink here to watch the fireworks at Navy Pier or just to enjoy the spectacular city’s skyline.

Another thing that I find interesting about Cite is its cosmopolitan component: the cuisine is French American,  the General Manager Assyrian, the Executive Chef Chilean, and the publicist Ukranian. Cite certainly offers a cosmopolitan fine dining experience and would love to have cosmopolitan urbanites visit their restaurant. That is why Cite is offering a free appetizer with a purchase of two entrees to Chicago Urbanite followers during the month of February. Get a Free Appetizer at the Newest Peruvian Restaurant in Chicago: 4 Suyos

Hello Urbanites!
Today at 5pm is the opening of the newest Peruvian restaurant in town: 4 Suyos.  Located in Logan Square, 4 Suyos will feature locally-sourced, traditional Peruvian food (with a few twists). This restaurant is the creation of  Humberto Trujillo from Peru and Erin Slucter from Michigan. They met two years ago when Humberto cooked for Erin’s family. They became so fascinated by Humberto’s cooking and with Peruvian cuisine, that Erin decided to embark on a culinary adventure with him and open a Peruvian restaurant.

Happy Chinese New Year!

It is time to visit Chicago’s Chinatown to celebrate the 2012 Lunar New Year, the Year of the DRAGON 4710, with a parade that will include marching bands, floats, lions teams, a mystical dragon, and Miss Friendship Ambassador. This year’s parade also kicks off celebrations of the Chinatown Centennial 1912-2012.

Come to a fun and educational guided tasting event honoring the 477th Anniversary of the city of Lima, and discover why it was declared the “Gastronomic Capital of the Americas” at the International Gastronomic Summit Madrid Fusion.

 

Tasting includes:

Two Pisco-based cocktails

Tasting of five varieties of Pisco guided by Sommelier Juan Illescas

Causa Limeña de Pulpo. Exclusively found in Peruvian Cuisine, a cold, tangy, mildly spicy mash potato cake topped with olive mayo and octopus.

Anticucho. Of African origin and sold mostly by street vendors, an incomparable skewer of beautiful texture and mouthwatering flavor.

Aji de Gallina, a delicious and traditional chicken stew that resulted from the fusion of Peruvian cuisine with French cooking traditions. It is a spicy, nutty cheese sauce served over baby yellow potatoes.

Surprise Dessert from Colonial Lima.
